Pokemon GO field guide
Things you’re going to need:
- A phone that can update to the latest os to be able to run Pokemon GO
- A good pair of walking shoes. You don’t want your feet to get tired!
- Water! And lots of it, gotta keep hydrated!
- Sun screen. Protect your skin from UVs when you’re walking around cause the sun WILL KILL YOU
Optional things:
- Pokemon GO Plus. You know, the button accessory thing.
- A solar charger. Your phone is going to be eating battery, no need to stop and charge at a fast food place or whatever if you’ve got a portable charger! X X X X This one is kinda expensive: X Related, external batteries: X X From what I’ve read, a big issue is the battery usage. Seriously consider getting some sort of external power source.
- A backpack to carry around supplies. This can be small: X Or large: X Or one that also carries water: X X Or a fancy one with charging tech: X Though I suggest an ergonomic backpack, one that isn’t going to stress your shoulders out: X X X
- Snacks! I don’t really need to provide links for this, but try to go for something like trail mix.
- Umbrella for rain. X Related, rain boots: X
- Parasol for the sun. X
- Pokemon music! X X X
- Breathable clothing X X X
- Flash Light for night. X
- Reflective clothes for night. This is important so you can be seen by passing cars at night. X
- Baseball cap. X
- A map print out so you can mark where you found Pokemon.
Things to prepare:
- What team you’re going to be on. In the beta there is red, blue, and yellow teams. Get together with your friends and decide which to join so you can help defend your gyms together!
- Look up local national parks! X
- Plan a day to walk around with friends! It looks like with the beta that there will be a Pokemon on every street corner or so. It’ll be a lot more fun to walk around with friends!
- Plan a road trip! If it turns out that there is going to be a rare Pokemon, but it’s a little far away, put together a road trip with friends and bring snacks and music. You’re bound to find Pokemon along the way. Hopefully one of you knows how to drive.
- Find local “interesting” spots that might have rare items if you visit them. There really isn’t any criteria for it, but it looks like it will be things like libraries, churches, museums, and statues.
Safety:
- Tell someone if you’re going out alone. It can be dangerous if no one knows where you are and can’t contact you.
- Be aware of your surroundings. It looks like Pokemon are along roads like in google maps. This means the possibility of cars all the time. Don’t get hurt!
- Don’t go into areas blocked off. Like power plants or water management places. These places are restricted for your safety.
- Don’t go into a graveyard at night. It’s illegal! I know a ghastly would be interesting to catch in such a place but be respectful of the dead people!
About Pokemon GO from what I know so far:
- You start out with 20 pokeballs and possibly a starter
- You train by going to Gyms which you can either attack or defend from other teams (red, blue, and yellow)
- Pokemon have two moves, a quick attack and a special attack
- The trainer gains experience by catching and training
- The levels a trainer has can influence some things like how many Pokemon you can store
- Only gen 1 Pokemon right now
- You catch Pokemon by throwing balls at them. The difficulty to catch might be indicated by the ring around them when catching. Not sure about how to influence a better catch rate
- There is a small variety of items you can use like potions, x attacks, revives, and pokeballs
- Some Pokemon require 10 duplicates to evolve. Meaning you’re gonna have to catch a lot of Pokemon. X
- By my estimates, you will have to capture almost 1000 Pokemon (987) in order to have enough evolution shards to have all the Pokemon.
- You hatch eggs by walking.
